COLLECTING GUIDES

BIS numbers, internal references and card variants

Distinguish printed card numbers, catalogue references and physical variants.

Numbers are not always integers

Card numbers can contain letters, prefixes or BIS suffixes. Treat them as printed identifiers rather than a simple numeric sequence. Check both sides and the edition’s checklist.

What REF means here

A documented card without a confirmed printed number may receive an internal REF identifier. It preserves a stable catalogue identity; it does not claim that the reference is printed on the physical card. Read the accompanying note.

BIS and Type are different fields

BIS may be part of the number or source label. The Type filter uses normalised categories. Reviewed BIS labels in the audited Panini Megacracks series are displayed as Base while preserving their numbering and provenance.

Verify physical variants

A variant records a documented difference. Photograph colour, a printed signature or a seller’s description alone is not enough to establish one. Check the notes and sources before treating entries as equivalent.

These guides describe the catalogue and product. For an individual edition, check its own sources and coverage notes.
